This thesis is a community based applied/action case study of the L2 preschool program that is informed by the researcher’s creation and implementation of the integrated Montessori inspired, naturalistic, fifteen-month program in 2003-2004. This study evaluates the current Spanish program (2007) and explores the sustainability of the previously implemented L2 teaching/learning approach. Data was collected through applied anthropological qualitative methods including field observations and in-depth interviews with teachers, parents, and the director of the DPP. Findings address the paucity of research that focuses specifically on teaching a L2 to preschool students and provide a recommendation for future improvements. Research from this topic addresses issues of program development and sustainability for foreign language programs with limited resources.
